Gary Paul Menna, a DMV-native, died on December 11, 2022 at the age of 73 in his home in Brandywine, Maryland.
Gary was born in Washington, DC on March 11, 1949 to Mary and Gus Menna. He graduated from St. Anthony’s Catholic School in 1968 and became a Tile Helper for his father until he moved up to Tile Mechanic. He transitioned over to a Stone Mason in his early 30s, which lead to his 15 seconds of fame on the news for his work on the Morman Temple, also known as the “Disney Castle” in Kensington, Maryland. He also taught night school classes to include Stone Mason Apprenticeship and blueprint reading. He retired in 2007 as the Secretary/Treasurer of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1.
Gary had a love for hydroplane boat racing, crabbing, and fishing on the weekends. After retirement, his hobbies focused on yard sales and thrift stores, loving the thrill of a “good deal”.
Gary is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Jean; his children, Anthony Paul and Michelle Marie (Michael Zeher); and five granddaughters: Treasure Nikole Menna, Katelynn Elizabeth Menna, Kaylee Susanne Zeher, Zoey Marie Zeher, and Logen Michelle Zeher.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Hunts Funeral Home in Waldorf, Maryland from 1030-1130. Service to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake in Waldorf, Maryland.
